Business & Community Charters

Business and Community Charters encourage organisations of all types and sizes to make a commitment to engage with and support their local communities. Companies making the commitment and demonstrating appropriate levels of engagement can gain additional recognition by applying for a Business and Community Charter Award.

The Charters and Awards operate at a local level. They are administered by the Organisation for Responsible Businesses (ORB) and supported by local authorities and other local agencies such as voluntary associations and business groups.

Charter Awards were launched as a trial in Southend-on-Sea in 2014 with a full relaunch early 2015. Later in the same year, Charter Awards were launched in Castle Point. We will be launching in more areas in 2016. Please contact us if you would like more information.

We will be launching Business and Community Charters across the UK as a social franchise and are currently looking for appropriately skilled people to register their interest.

Each franchisee will be allocated a local authority area – or sometimes a couple of areas. There will be a small fee to purchase the franchise which will include robust residential training. Ongoing overheads are minimal as we anticipate most franchisees will work from a home office (or laptop in a cafe!) Income generated will be mostly on a commission basis that also links with all other aspects of ORB including membership and the Responsible Business Standard.

This opportunity is suitable for business degree graduates possessing innate entrepreneurial skills. Or older people with a wealth of business experience!

What qualities are we looking for?

  • Extensive business experience and / or acumen.
  • Personable and outgoing
  • A strong social conscience
  • Self-motivating and organised
  • Excellent online and offline communication skills
  • Honest, trustworthy and reliable.

The project is early stage but if you would like to find out more, without commitment, please e-mail
